Backup statistics for our group server

We use Bacula for backing up our work group’s emails, shared folders and the users home folders. The initial setup was not too simple but the backup works very reliable. Restoring data is also not too difficult, I had to do it a couple of times and never had a problem with it.

Incremental backups are running daily, differential backup every weekend, and full backups every month.

Currently, there are about 30 active users on the server with about 20 local mail accounts. (Bachelor students or other short term personnel get their mail redirected). Still you can see an increase of the mail volume since 2012. I would not call it exponential, yet. The share and home folders are on a plateau due to the size limit of these partitions. When the next need arise for a size increase, these values will rise again. After all, if you give users the space they will use it.

Following are some statistics I have collected over the last years about the backup size, these figures are updated daily:
